Our story

Chicopee wood,
Chicopee hands.

Randy Berzenski's father started Berzenski Floor Sanding in 1972, sanding three-decker floors on Chicopee Street with a rented drum sander and a lot of patience. Randy Berzenskigrew up in the trade alongside him and took over the business in 2009.

More than fifty years after the first floor, the crew is still family: Randy Berzenski, his son, and two long-time finishers who have been with the shop over a decade. We take one job at a time and we finish it before starting the next.

Most of the houses we work in were built between 1890 and 1955 — oak, maple, and old-growth pine that doesn't behave like new stock. Knowing how those floors move through a Valley winter is the whole job.

What we hold to

Honest assessment

If a screen-and-recoat will serve you better than a full sand, we'll say so and charge you less.

One crew, start to finish

No subcontractors. The person who quotes your floor runs the machine on it.

Clean house

Containment goes up before machines come in, and we vacuum the room we leave, not just the floor.
